October Discovery Box – Featured Wines

2007 Roc d’Anglade, Rouge

(Red, Languedoc-Roussilon, France)
UP: $80  |  Discovery Box Subscribers: $65

“Ripe blackberry, roasted red meats, peat, and wood smoke rise pungently from the glass of 2007 Roc d’Anglade, then segue into a rather granularly tannic palate, its smoky proclivities married to fruit pit bitterness and dark earth tones in an impressively-prolonged but slightly diffuse finish.”

2008 Tablas Creek, Esprit de Beaucastel

(Red, Pasa Robles, USA)
UP: $80  |  Discovery Box Subscribers: $65

“The 2008 Esprit de Beaucastel flows with sweet dark cherries, flowers, tobacco and spices. It is a beautiful, classically built wine graced with striking inner perfume, lovely mid-palate juiciness and a round, utterly harmonious finish. Well-integrated, silky tannins linger on the close. This is a fabulous wine from Tablas Creek.”

2013 Alvaro Castro, Reserva

(Red, Dao, Portugal)
UP: $54  |  Discovery Box Subscribers: $39

“The 2013 Reserva Dão Álvaro Castro, the black label with the big Dão on it, is about one-half field blend from Pellada, with mostly Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro and some Jaen (all sourced from Outeiro Vineyard) filling out the blend. It was aged for 18-20 months in French barriques (depending on lot) ranging from five to eight years old. Elegant, yet tense on the finish, this shows surprising grip, while the tannins are ripe and the wine impeccably balanced. This fresh and graceful tinto is a Burgundian-styled beauty that grows on you. It’s a perfect food wine.”
