December Discovery Box

2001 Charmes Chambertin Domaine Taupenot-Merme

Red | Burgundy | France

UP: $210  |  Discovery Box Subscribers: $195

The 2001 is such a nice vintage, especially for the better 1ers Crus and Grands Crus, which are really very close to the 2002s qualitatively. Wonderfully fresh and pure with a sense of transparency and cool. Light, clear translucent ruby red colour. Nose of fresh crushed lavender, dry red soil, liquorice root, sour cherries with a tiny hint of sweeter strawberries behind it and slightly woody on the back.

2006 Conti Constanti Brunello Di Montalcino

Red | Tuscany | Italy

UP: $160  |  Discovery Box Subscribers: $145

From the Colle al Matrichese location east of Montalcino’s city walls, the 2006 Brunello di Montalcino shows a rich fabric that is woven tight with evident strands of black fruit, mesquite smoke, crushed black pepper, licorice, rosemary oil and root beer. The wine leans away from the sweet side of Brunello to the savory side and that is ultimately what makes it so attractive. It is put together thanks to masculine and muscular touches with evocative shadings of smoke and mineral that shift and change as it decants.

1983 Chateau Bel Air Lagrave, Moulis En Medoc

Red | Bordeaux, France

UP: $99  |  Discovery Box Subscribers: $84

Did you also know 1983 was a great year for Bordeaux? It was the largest crop in over three decades and one that produced some amazing wines reflecting the hot and dry growing season marked by their concentration, power, and purity of fruit. The area that really stood out in this incredible vintage was the central Medoc where it produced many 100 point wines. Initial nose of earthy, black tea and tobacco. Follows with blooming scents of smokiness with undertones of wet leaves and strong dark flower scents. A classic blend that is distinct and ripe accompanied with a tip of wood spice.
