2007 E. Guigal Condrieu La Doriane

95 points Robert Parker: “This full-bodied white was aged in one-third new oak and two-thirds tank. One hundred percent of the 2007 Condrieu La Doriane is vinified in new oak, and put through malolactic. It is then aged for 11 months prior to bottling. Absolutely exquisite…” (04/09)

94 points Wine Spectator: “Really dense, with a massive core of white peach, fig, almond and Cavaillon melon notes carried by a remarkably creamy-textured palate. Long and pure through the finish, with mineral and floral notes waiting in reserve. Guigal is really coming on strong with their Viognier cuvees. Best from 2009 through 2014.” (10/08) The vineyards that comprise this opulent white are planted on very steep terraces: “Côte Chatillon” is composed primarily of shale, silicone, and limestone, while “Colombier” is of granite and sand stone. Beginning in 2005, a third Lieu dit has been added – Château Volan – an exceptionally steep, south-facing vineyard near the town of Malleval. Guigal performs several green harvests during the growing season in these vineyards to keep yields exceptionally low. La Doriane is composed of 100% Viognier, and is fermented and aged in 100% new French oak barriques for 9 months before bottling, with a high level of fine lees included in the fermenting must to help the wine integrate the oak character more completely. Only 15,000 bottles are produced (equivalent to 1,250 cases of 12). 13.5% abv.
